Embrace Spring Like a French

Embracing Spring, Rain or Shine, the French Way

As I write this, it's pouring rain here in Toronto, definitely not the spring weather I’m dreaming of. But even though the skies are grey, I’m excited to share a little spring inspiration with you.

This post was planned ahead of time, so while I’m imagining myself strolling through a sunny marché in Provence, I hope you can still feel the spring energy wherever you are!

Spring in France is a time to savour the beauty of the season, slow down, and reconnect with nature. Here’s how the French do it:

  • Visit the marché: Fresh produce is everywhere: fraises (strawberries), radis (radishes), asperges (asparagus), and herbes fraîches (fresh herbs). Spring is the perfect time to explore your local market and pick up fresh and seasonal ingredients.
  • Slow down: Take your time to enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of spring. The weather’s not too hot yet, making it a perfect time to wander outside before the summer heat hits.
  • Wellness Walk: French springtime is made for balades (walks) and outdoor moments. With the warmer weather, it's the perfect time to breathe in the fresh air, stretch your legs, and enjoy nature before the summer crowds arrive. Taking a moment to reconnect with your body in nature is part of the French art de vivre.
  • Enjoy an apéro or picnic: With spring's gentle warmth, it's time for leisurely apéro moments or impromptu picnics. Celebrate the season with something simple yet special like my Chorizo Madeleines, perfect for sharing with loved ones.

Did You Know?

Today, May 1st, is La fête du Travail, Labour Day, in France, but it’s also a special holiday called La Fête du Muguet, a day when the French traditionally give lily of the valley (muguet) to friends and loved ones for good luck.

Feeling inspired by the French way of spring?

What’s the first thing you’ll do, like moi? My pleasure is the weekly market visit!

Will you visit a local market, enjoy a walk in the sunshine, or maybe try making my Chorizo Madeleines?

I’d love to hear what you choose drop me a message or share your spring plans!
